2. Pinned apps
Similar to the Windows 10 taskbar, macOS offers a Dock for placing and accessing frequently used apps and games. After a while, the Dock fills up if you work with a good number of applications. Windows 11 addresses this issue by providing app options pinned to the Start menu. Yes, those unnecessary living tiles are gone forever, and now they’re replaced with pinned apps and a recommended menu.
Unlike macOS, just press the Windows key to access up to 18 apps without leaving the current interface. On macOS, you need to go to the all apps section to find and use the app.
3. AI-based recommendations
The default Start menu now has a Recommended section that displays frequently used files, photos, and apps across the Windows 11 and Microsoft 365 ecosystem. If you opened a Word file on mobile. Now, Instead of opening Microsoft Word on the desktop to access the same file, Windows 11 will recommend the Word file directly to the Start menu.. Currently, something similar to macOS is missing.
4. Universal mute button
We’ve all been in a situation where we forgot to mute the microphone during a video call. Video calling apps like Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams have a different UI / UX and confusing the end user to find relevant menus and options during video calls.
Microsoft fixes microphone issue with dedicated mute button on taskbar. Just click on it to turn off the microphone at the system level. Apple could go further by offering a dedicated button to also deactivate the camera.
5. Better support with external monitors
Compatibility of an external monitor with a Windows laptop improves in Windows 11. The operating system will remember Windows management and settings on the monitor. When disconnecting a Windows laptop with an external monitor, the system saves the preferences and will use them once you reconnect the device to the monitor. MacOS still does not save the default settings.
Microsoft has definitely improved the user experience and its productivity game with the upcoming Windows 11 operating system.. Of course, Windows 11 has features inspired by macOS, but Apple is expected to do the same in future versions as well.
