After an absurd number of leaks, Samsung has finally decided to present to the public its new FE series mobile phone, the Galaxy S24 FE. It is a device that stands out for its compatibility with the same functions of the Galaxy AI and for the fact that it offers a very similar experience to that of its “big brothers”.
Compared to the last generation, improvements are visible in all aspects of the Galaxy S24 FE; the design, materials, size and power have improved and are closer to the conventional Galaxy S24. The biggest change compared to the Galaxy S23 FE is the Dynamic AMOLED 2x display, which now reaches 6.7 inches with a Full HD+ resolution, a variable refresh rate of 120Hz, and a peak brightness of 1,900 nits. As if that wasn’t enough, the screen protection has also improved thanks to the use of Gorilla Glass Victus+. The display has always been the strong point of Samsung phones, and now the same can be said of the FE.
The main difference between the Galaxy S24 FE and the regular Galaxy S24 is, oddly enough, on the inside. Around the world, the Galaxy S24 FE uses an Exynos 2400e processor developed by Samsung itself, so this time there will be no option to choose a Qualcomm chip. Specifically, the Exynos 2400e is a stripped-down version of the Exynos 2400 used in the Galaxy S24, although the differences seem minimal and mainly affect the maximum processor frequency.
Therefore, in terms of performance, we should not notice much difference, and it could even favor the battery life, although it will also help that it is larger, with a capacity of 4,700 mAh. Additionally, Samsung claims to use a 10% larger vapor chamber system to maintain lower temperatures. Another difference is the RAM, which can only be 8GB on the Galaxy S24 FE, with no 12GB option like on the base Galaxy S24.
This means that the Galaxy S24 FE probably won’t be as well prepared for future AI models running locally on mobile; but that’s the only negative thing that can be said about AI. The importance of Galaxy AI for Samsung is evident
The Galaxy S24 FE has access to many of the features introduced by the Galaxy S24, such as Circle to Search, to find anything in any app. We can also use the Interpreter, which Instantly translate conversations we have in person or conferences, and the simultaneous translator for phone calls. Composing on the Samsung keyboard generates text from keywords, and Note Assistant automates note-taking with transcriptions and translations that it formats itself.
AI features are the saving grace when it comes to photography, as the Galaxy S24 FE uses exactly the same sensors as the Galaxy S23 FE: a 50MP main, a 12MP wide-angle and an 8MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom, as well as a 10MP selfie camera.
While the cameras themselves haven’t improved, Samsung says the new ProVisual Engine, an AI-powered camera engine, is capable of improve the visual quality of our photosAlso included are features like Night Vision to improve performance in low light situations and the Object Aware Engine to recognize scenes and enhance colors.
The photos we take may be edited and modified using AIwith a generative edition capable of moving and eliminating objects, in addition to giving different effects to our selfies like the one that turns us into a cartoon.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE will be available in Europe from October 3. At the moment, Samsung has not confirmed the price in our country, although judging by the prices in other countries, there will probably be an increase compared to the last generation.
