Everything seems to indicate that the iOS 17 operating system will be compatible with all iPhone models capable of running iOS 16. This according to a source who claims to have reliable contacts within Apple.
The information comes to contradict the previous rumors that had been generated, which claimed that iOS 17 would no longer be compatible with various models. Among them, iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X. While iPadOS 17 would no longer be intended for the first-generation 9.7-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro, as well as the fifth-generation iPad.
However, in direct response to this information, a reputable trusted backer said otherwise, saying it was “simply incorrect”. For what everything seems to indicate that iPhones compatible with iOS 16 will also be compatible with iOS 17. This includes all devices with A11 chipsets i.e. iPhone 8/8 Plus and iPhone X.
Rumors from a reliable source
The contrasting information comes from the same source that accurately described the arrival of the Dynamic Island on pre-launch iPhone 14 Pro models last year.
This source recently said that iPhone 15 Pro models will use a new ultra-low-power chip. The same that will allow the status buttons to continue working even when the mobile is off or without battery. By the way, I mention that iOS 17 will include a new sensitivity setting for these buttons, which will be on/off and volume.
If confirmed, it wouldn’t be surprising, since this isn’t the first time Apple has maintained the same list of compatible devices between major iOS versions. We have already seen how iOS 15 is compatible with all devices capable of running iOS 14
But on the other hand, iOS 16 has stopped supporting some old devices like iPhone SE, iPhone 6s/6s Plus, iPhone 7/7 Plus and iPod touch.
Unless this rumor is corroborated by another source within the next two months, we’ll have to wait until June 5 to find out if it’s true.. Well, that’s when WWDC should be held, where Apple should announce iOS 17.
