Every day something is patented. There are patents with very little information that only protect an idea and others more that allow us to visualize the devices. Xiaomi knows a lot about this and, in fact, in recent years we have had such interesting patents as the mobile with interchangeable camera and battery and the all-screen Xiaomi. Or the mobile whose screen can be removed.
Now, however, we are going to talk about a patent from the first group: those that are there, but about which we have very little information. Basically, Xiaomi patented in the Beijing Register a system of cameras that detect lies
The mobile camera capable of detecting lies
Thanks to ITHome comes the document of the curious patent that Xiaomi applied in 2021 and has just been officially registered. But… what is it exactly?
Well, it’s not really that we have a lot of information because the description of the document is not very detailed, but there are some interesting facts. As we said, consists of a camera-integrated system which detects lies.
The camera can capture facial images as well as follow the movement of the pupil and your changes to determine if you are lying or telling the truth. According to some studies, the pupil dilates between 4% and 8% if you tell a lie and, in addition, you blink more in the process.
We could perfectly speak of an implementation in security cameras, but Xiaomi says it’s something that can be used on a cellphone.
In fact, there is one sentence that puzzled me. According to the description, include this technology “may improve the user experience with the device”. In fact, right now I’m staring at my phone thinking about how a lie detector on the front camera can improve my experience…
But hey, as we always tell you when we talk about patents, the fact that it has been filed does not mean that the technology will be launched or that it will be applied to a commercial device. It is a constant that companies patent technologies or ideas to protect themBut often they get nowhere.
Other occasions, like the case of Samsung’s Galaxy Ring, may come to fruition as they appear to be more use-specific devices and there are precedents in the market, but something like the Xiaomi lie detector, I don’t know if it would have very long “legs”. In fact, we encourage you to leave your possible jobs in the comments.
