It’s already confirmed: the Nothing Phone (2a) is a success. The company’s first mobile phone aimed at a cheaper price sector managed to connect with consumers in a way that many brands would wish for.
The key to the success of Phone (2a) is obvious. The simplest thing would have been to launch a “cheap version” and lighter version of the Phone (2) launched last year, as most brands do; but CEO Carl Pei refused to make the usual design and hardware sacrifices.
As a result, the Nothing Phone (2a) retains the same features as the more expensive models, including its own original design and matching components including a proprietary MediaTek processor. And now you will receive a very special community edition.
Nothing community edition
The project was born with the intention of “design and build the final version of the Phone (2a)”; In other words, it will be a special version of the recently launched mobile, but instead of designing it in-house, the project will allow collaboration between fans.
To do this, Nothing will organize a competition, the four winners of which will collaborate directly with the Nothing team to bring their ideas to life. Once the project is completed, winners will be part of the launch event
The project consists of four stages, each focused on an aspect of mobile that will be modified by fans. The first is hardware design, which begins this March 26; On this day, the deadline for submitting the mobile design opens. Concretely, when Nothing speaks of “hardware”, this means that users will be able to select the colors, materials and finishes of the mobile
The design of the wallpapers for this special edition will begin in May; while the package design period will open in June. Finally, in July, the product marketing campaign will be selected. In total, the process will last six months, so it is likely that the mobile will be launched at the end of the year.
Those interested in signing up for the project can go to the official Community Edition page and register in the Nothing community.
