In the WWDC21 that Apple celebrated last June, Tim Cook and his team showed us a new, very dynamic and spectacular photo sphere. we ended up with the fly behind our ears, when the developers tested watchOS 8 beta 1 and the sphere was nowhere to be found.

But in the new second beta launching this week, you can already pick up this new sphere, and it looks like it’s a success. Let’s see what it is.

The photo sphere is one of the most used by users. Like we do with the iPhone or iPad, we like to put one of our favorite photos as wallpaper, and the Apple Watch was not going to be less.

Well, Apple gave you a turn of the screw to this sphere, adding some interesting functions.

With the new sphere Picturesportraits stored on iPhone come to life with a multi-layered wrap-around effect that intelligently recognizes faces in photos and crops them to make the subject stand out

In this new sphere, users can select up to 24 portraits in your gallery and add them to your Apple Watch as a unique background. So every time you turn on the Apple Watch screen, a new random photo will appear chosen from the 24 you previously selected.

There is also a very nice effect: watchOS cut out silhouette of portraits, and you can partially superimpose it on the clock digits, producing a very dramatic depth effect on the hour digits.

And apart from all that, from watchOS 8 Memories and Featured Photos sync with Apple Watch, and photos can be shared via Messages and Mail with the new Share menu.
