It’s not something that has been officially confirmed, but Mark Gurman said in his weekly Power On newsletter that Apple has started to hire public relations staff specializing in augmented reality glasses and visors. We are no longer talking of engineers and programmers, but of communications personnel. And that means that from Cupertino they are already focusing on how to launch a product and not just how it is designed and manufactured.
According to Gurman, the person hired is the head of public relations at Meta Andrea Schubert. Meta (formerly Facebook) turned to creating what it sees as the future of the internet, the Metaverse, based entirely on virtual and augmented reality.
2022 will be the year of Apple’s glasses, but especially of its software
There has been a lot of talk about Apple’s future virtual and / or augmented reality devices, but at this point, everything indicates that 2022 will be the year we see a first step with this market hand in hand with Cupertino. As shy as I can be.
And that first step is going to be the one that can define a shift to what Apple thinks virtual reality should be. And maybe from the outside we’ll see glasses similar to what we have with the Oculus or the Valve Index … but a maxim at Apple is that always think about software and integration. This is what will differentiate the Apple viewer from the rest of the competition. The system, the app store, and how we’re going to interact with them.
