YouTube is one of the most popular video viewing services out there, although its official Android app doesn’t suit everyone. For those who want to watch YouTube but not use YouTube, the number of unofficial alternatives like SkyTube.
SkyTube is a YouTube client open source and does not require Google services, you can therefore install it on a recent Huawei mobile without any problem. Some of its advantages are blocking ads, downloading videos and being able to play videos and the fact that the audio does not stop when switching apps.
YouTube without Google services
If you like YouTube but not the official YouTube app, don’t miss SkyTube, an open source project with which you get a good number of additional features. A good bonus is that does not require Google services and you don’t need to log in either, although it does retain some customization to control what kind of content you’ll be shown.
To begin, it is possible to subscribe to channels, something that isn’t always available on unofficial YouTube clients. Videos from channels you’ve subscribed to appear in the Feed, similar to the way it appears in the official app.
Indeed, one of SkyTube’s strengths is its video blocker, which basically filters the videos you don’t care about from the list displayed in the app. From the app’s settings, you can specify various filters, including the ability to manually add channels you don’t want to appear.
Other more curious filters allow you to choose that only videos appear in a certain language or those who have a certain number of views or who like, to filter the viral of what has not yet traveled much.
