I’ve been using SkyShowtime to the fullest for a few days. It’s a new streaming platform that has some arguments for you to at least try it. The first is that it has a huge catalog thanks to the fact that it is owned by several studios and production companies (Dreamworks, Universal and Paramount among them). The second is that the introductory price is revolutionary: 2.99 dollars with 50% forever.
My colleague John Tones has already tested the platform and gives you his first impressions of the catalog and the image quality. However, we will focus on another topic. And that’s it, I’ll tell you the top 10 tricks of SkyShowtime so that you can enjoy the application these first days and configure it to your liking.
The SkyShowtime trick half price forever
Come on, that’s really a tip…and no, because it’s a promotion that SkyShowtime is tired of announcing. If you subscribe before April 25, you get SkyShowtime 50% off forever. It is so and if the monthly subscription costs 5.99 dollars, it now costs 2.99 dollars. If at some point they raise it to 6.99 dollars, you will pay for example 3.49 dollars.
Now, and here’s the trick: it depends on where you subscribe. If you download the application on your mobile or tablet and create an account, when you are in the payment gateway he will tell you that they are 5.99 dollars. Could it be because of the Google and Apple tariff in their stores? This may be the case, we do not know, but what we do know is that if you later go to the web with this account created, it will continue to ask you for 5.99 dollars.
So what you have to do is register directly from the browser version:
- Open the SkyShowtime website from your mobile browser or from your computer, if you prefer.
- Click “Subscribe Now”.
- Enter an email with which you wish to register and validate the password.
- Click on “Create an account”.
- Add a payment card.
- If necessary, confirm the first debit with the bank’s application.
- Complete the account creation process.
- Check the mailbox and confirm the account creation.
If the offer still doesn’t appear, enter this promo code in the “Payments & Plans” section: ESHPFL2023CS (Europe) or ADHPFL2023CS (if you live in Andorra).
Share SkyShowtime Account
Netflix no longer allows account sharing outside the home, but thankfully the other platforms, for now, continue with the philosophy that sharing is alive. Sharing your SkyShowtime account It’s as simple as giving the contact you want both the app email and password.
Once done, you have up to six profiles you can create, each with their own personalized list and “continue viewing”.
Protect every account with a PIN
Now, if you share an account, Another function of SkyShowtime that I loved is that of protecting our profile with a PIN code. Let’s see, it’s not that something is going to happen and the word “protect” might not be the most appropriate, but it’s okay to set a PIN so that no one gets in the way (by mistake or deliberately ) from the list of other users. Or starting streaks on our profile believing it’s yours, which happened to me…
So, for that, you just have to go to the profile settings. To access it from the main screen (where the bubbles with profiles are), you need to look for the pencil icon under your avatar. If you are already in your account (the screen where you see series and movie covers), click on your avatar in the top right to access the profile selection screen.
Once there, you should look for the “Profile PIN” option. It will ask you to enter your SkyShowtime password and after that it will allow you to create a PIN.
Enable or disable automated trailers
This option is super personal, but it helped me a lot and I think it’s a good feature to help you see new content. Surely you already have a streaming application and, in this one, there are trailers that play automatically on the main screen.
Well, on SkyShowtime this does not happen by default, you have to enable it. I see it for saving data and if you want to activate it, it’s very simple. You simply go back to your profile settings and under the PIN setup option you will see the possibility of activating “Automatic advances”.
I was familiar with a large part of the SkyShowtime catalog, but with this option, I watch a few series that, simply because of the cover art, I would not have started watching.
Installing SkyShowtime on Fire TV Stick is tricky, but it’s really very easy
Besides Android and iOS, you have easy access to SkyShowtime on TVs with Android TV, as well as Samsung TVs released since 2017, Apple TV from 4th generation, LG TVs with webOS 3.5 or later and Chromecast, classics and those with Google TV. And yes, you can send the video to Chromecast without any problem with the in-app button.
Now it is not available for Fire TV Stick. Because? We don’t know, but the reason may be the same as why HBO Max is also not on the Amazon device. However, if you have one, don’t despair as our colleagues at Xataka Home teach us how to install SkyShowtime on a Fire TV Stick.
The process is very simple and everything is based on downloading from Downloader. It is an application found in the Amazon store and has a browser and a file manager, so it is very useful.
When you install the app and give it the corresponding permissions, you just need to go to this link and download the APK. It will appear in the Downloader file manager, click several times to install it and that’s it.
Adjust subtitles as you wish
When watching content on the app or on your TV, you have the option to turn subtitles on or off, as well as change the language. However, you cannot customize the text.
To do this, you need to go to the web, specifically to the configuration menu. In the “Account” tab, you need to go to “Settings” and at the bottom of the page you will find the option to configure subtitles.
You can choose the font and its color, the shade and its color, the size of the text among three available and if you want the text in a window or with a background, whose colors you can also customize. As an accessibility option, it’s pretty goodbut I would appreciate if this could be changed directly in the app of each device.
Enable playback only over Wi-Fi
Data rates are getting more generous and there are plenty of unlimited data options, but maybe you don’t have that option and don’t want to spend data every time you watch a movie or series.
The app lets you choose only see content when connected to wifi. To enable it, follow these steps:
- On the main screen, click on your avatar in the top right.
- Again, at the top right, select “Account” and go to “Settings”.
- You have it in the first option: “Play only with Wi-Fi”.
With this, when you are at home, you will see the content with your Wi-Fi, so no data will be consumed if the mobile loses the signal at some point and uses the data.
Download series and movies to watch them later
As on other platforms, we have the possibility to download content to watch it offline. This is related to the previous function and the truth is that there is no loss: in each series or film you have the icon of the arrow pointing down which indicates that you can download the content and, in the lower area of the main menu, the same icon to access the download section.
To give you an idea, It’s the weight of some content that I downloaded these days:
- Cobain – two hours and 12 minutes – 2.9 GB
- McLaren – one hour and 32 minutes – 1.7 GB
- Bumblebee – One hour and 53 minutes – 2.6 GB
- A 58-minute Halo episode – 1.3 GB
When we upload something, we have 30 days to view it, but if you open it for anything, you have 48 hours. In other words, if you go on vacation for a week and start a movie on day one, if you don’t finish it in 48 hours, you won’t have it available in your downloads anymore.
And, that said, I recommend that you delete the content you see. It’s not that it weighs too much, but it’s a few GBs that add up.
Take advantage of content HUBs and build a list
The SkyShowtime interface will be familiar to you if you use HBO MaxFor example, even though it’s simple, I like its categories (not so much that you can’t remove the “Keep Watching” section, but hey). You will find compilations by sagas or directors, but also by themes and it is used to find new content.
However, aside from scrolling to find things, I recommend taking a look at both the Sections and Content HUBs. In the movies tab, you have the agglutinators for “action”, “drama”, “comedy”, etc. In the series, they appear by studies.
I like it because, for example, you can be a lover of Paramount productions, because in the corresponding tab you have everything from this production company.
Yes, as a 2 x 1 tip, if in any of the tabs you scroll down to the end, you will see a category called “from A to Z”. Scroll to the side until you come to a button called “see all”. Tap and go, you already have all SkyShowtime content in order.
Protect your account from prying eyes and control connected devices
If you’re sharing your SkyShowtime account, you’re probably doing it for the love of art. Don’t be me and charge your family and friends 30 cents to split the 3 euro bill. But well, yeahIf you share it with someone and don’t want them to see your payment detailsit’s as simple as selecting the “Enhanced Security” feature.
For that, you have to go back to the web version. Go to “Account”, go to “Settings” and you have an option called “Enhanced Security”. If you activate it, your payment information is hidden and, if you wish to see it, you will receive an email with a one-time code that only you have access to.
Also, from “Account” you can access the “Devices” tab. Here you can see who has logged into your account to find out if your account has been leaked or anything. You can sign out of devices and change their name to have more control over them.
And a little more these are the 10 tricks and functions that I have used the most in SkyShowtime during those early days. If you’re missing something important, leave it in the comments and we’ll add it.
