Now that the European Union has decided to unify USB-C port connections by law, Apple has no choice but to comply with the regulations and prepare. He has time to do it, and it looks like he’s going to rush it. Ming Chi Kuo said today What AirPods Pro 2 will still have a Lightning connection
Lightning still has life for a while
Kuo is still betting we’ll see those AirPods Pro 2 before the end of this year, so Lightning might still “survive” as a charging mode for a few more years. And let us remember that this cable it would not be the only way to recharge: There would also be wireless charging which is already offered in all the latest models of these headphones.
What I’m guessing will happen is that the cable included in these AirPods Pro 2 will have Lightning on one end and USB-C on the other, as a previous step to Europe’s forced unification. And here, chargers like the dual USB-C that Apple has started selling will do a good job. Am I too picky if I order a triple?
Another compelling reason to ask this question is that Kuo himself thinks that Apple will start to sell charging cases with USB-C connection for all your AirPods in 2023, which can be an incentive for anyone who wants to switch to the new standard and unify their loads. It will be that, or wait for the need to change the headphones themselves in the more distant future.
