This December has been a very quiet month for Apple, as usual (although there have been exceptions). Most of us have already started (or finished) our vacation shopping at the start of the month, so it doesn’t make much sense for tech companies to release something in the last month of the year.
But with the arrival of a new year, new opportunities are coming and it is possible that Apple will start introducing products as early as January. New models of iPhone, iPad, Mac, MacBook and AirPods are expected and could be released soon.
Our suspicion is that Apple will experience a calm January again and reserve its big releases for an event in the spring (likely March or April). But we’ve listed the chances of them coming this month below.
New mac mini
Throughout this article we’ll be repeating a lot of things that can happen now, but more likely in the spring. And indeed, that’s our prediction for the next Mac mini.
There’s no doubt a Mac mini is on the way. It was a surprise that it didn’t arrive alongside the other new Macs presented by Apple at the October event, especially since it should be aimed at business users.
At the end of August, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg predicted the new Mac mini would arrive “in the next few months,” which would certainly fit a January release, though it could fit into a spring release just as well.
It’s about choosing the right time. If Apple has other plans to discuss at its March or April event (for example, the iPad Air, MacBook, and AirPods Pro), then it could introduce the Mac mini in January to lead the way.
Odds: 5/10
iPad Air (5th generation)
In 2021, many new iPads have arrived, with the introduction of new versions of the iPad, iPad mini, and iPad Pro, but there has been one that hasn’t been updated. since 2020, the iPad Air. It is high time for the news to arrive in 2022.
But that probably won’t happen until the spring event in March or April, both because an event will have more impact and because the last iPad to arrive did so recently. If the Airs were nearly ready, Apple could have announced it alongside the new iPad mini and the 10.2 ”iPad in September.
But, like the Mac mini, the new iPad Air is more likely to arrive in January than in December, so there is some hope.
Odds: 3.5 / 10
MacBook Air (or rather MacBook alone?)
This is a key launch for Apple’s laptop line, which appears to be heavily revamped.
If reports are to be believed, the MacBook Air will be redesigned (including its wedge shape), as it will feature vibrant new colors and a powerful M2 processor. It could be renamed MacBook, and some suggest the cheaper MacBook Pro wouldn’t make much sense.
This is expected to happen in the first half of 2022. The fact that this is such a big launch means they are unlikely to announce it with a press release. It would most likely happen during the spring event or the June WWDC.
Odds: 3/10
AirPods Pro (2nd generation)
We thought there was a small chance that Apple would decide to launch the second-generation AirPods Pro in December, as it did with the AirPods Max in 2020. But it doesn’t, so we wait. always that the model replaces the one which arrived. in the fall of 2019.
AirPods Pro are now more likely to arrive as they were first released a long time ago and were once blown away by the cheaper and newer AirPods 3. They need to be updated and soon.
Odds: 3/10
Bigger iMac (or iMac Pro?)
It’s easy to make the mistake of thinking of the iMac as one product, but Apple sells two clearly distinct lines: the cheapest mainstream models (right now, the iMac 24 “arriving in April) and the Professional with Display is updated, but larger models still use Intel chips and need to be updated.
Right now, the larger iMac has a 27 “screen, but it’s expected to grow to 30” or even 32 “. And Apple is expected to add M processors, most likely the M1 Pro and M1 chips. MacBook Pro Max Some experts are hoping that the larger iMac model will be renamed iMac Pro.
We think Apple will wait until summer to announce the new, larger iMac, or early spring at the earliest. Sadly, it is highly unlikely to arrive in January.
Odds: 2/10
iPod touch (8th generation)
We’ve already mentioned a possible iPod touch update, but our prediction counter continues to drop. A release was expected in fall 2021, but that did not happen. Maybe he was late and didn’t cancel it.
Odds: 2/10
Mac Pro
Last month we were saying that any release is likely to be made through a press release, not a special event. There were a few events in January (the original iPad was announced in January 2010), but that’s unlikely this year.
That’s why we believe the new Mac Pro won’t arrive in January. There are other products on this list that could be released via a press release, but not the flagship Mac Pro. It could be great for WWDC, but it won’t be until June.
Odds: 1/10
iPhone SE3
The long-awaited successor to the 2020 iPhone SE is expected to arrive in the first half of 2022, with a high probability that it will be in the spring. Several reports indicate a launch of the iPhone SE 3 in March or April 2022.
Obviously, anything is possible and there could be changes. The possibility of this happening is now slightly higher than in December. However, if Apple is rigid in anything, it’s in its timeline for iPhones and its arrival in January would be a big surprise.
Odds: 0.5 / 10
