A few hours ago, Google launched Bard in Europe. This is their first general access chatbot, created to be a direct alternative to ChatGPT. This product It was presented a few months ago, but it was not yet available nor in Europe nor in the rest of the European Union, due to regulatory issues.
The company has now confirmed that it complies with European legislation and allowed any user of its products to access Bard, via a web interfaceeven if this chatbot should be integrated later in several products, as Microsoft is doing with Copilot.
Using it is as simple as entering its website and starting to chat with this bot, but there are some things you better know to try and get the most out of it, as it is unresponsive always the same way.
Tips for using Bard
Like any conversational assistant, he will base his answers on the information we give him, so it is preferable give you the more information, the better. The quality of responses may be affected, in addition to the response itself. Of course, being in a beta phase, as the site itself states, it is possible that human reviewers will process conversations with Bard for quality reasons, which is why it is highly recommended do not enter confidential information.
May use Bard on mobile, simply by navigating to the webpage from your browser of choice. Of course, at the moment the interface that allows you to talk to Bard from the Google Assistant is not active, although it sometimes indicates that it is available. Any answer Bard gives us can be heard with the same synthetic male voice used in the Google Assistant. Of course, at the moment we only have the option of putting the male version. And if we don’t like the answer given to us, we can choose between two others simply by clicking on the arrow that appears next to the audio playback icon.

Later it will also be possible to interact with Bard using images, so that he describes them and extracts information, but for the moment this functionality is limited to English and is not available in Spanish.
Bard still has a lot to do, but it was clear that Google couldn’t keep waiting at the expense of companies like Open AI and Microsoft establishing themselves as the benchmark for artificial intelligence in Europe. If Google uses the muscle it has with its web and Android services, it can position itself as the benchmark. Apple has already shown that It’s not about getting there first, it’s about doing better.
