The way we interact has changed with iOS 17!
The presentation of iOS 17 during WWDC23 made it clear that the update will focus on the offer good news in communication apps. Of course, Phone and FaceTime belong to this list. And this year, Apple has decided to make up for lost time with a shower of new features that we have already been able to use in the public beta version available, before the official launch in the coming months.
In Phone, Apple has improved the lock screen when a contact calls us with a new function called contact travel mugs. The lock screen can be personalized for each contact with a personalized image and some additional features.
FaceTime lets you create audio and video messages, if you call a contact who is unavailable

contact request
A change has been made to the design of the Contacts application to give more relevance to the contact banners. Now when selecting a contact, You will notice that your contact photo, Memoji or initials take up more space on the screen. This also applies to contacts to whom you have assigned a custom image.
live voicemail
Live Voicemail is a new feature that allows the iPhone to transcribe a voice message while the person on the other end is talkingso you can pick up the phone if it turns out to be something important.
updated call log
This useful call log update lets you know if a missed call resulted in a voicemail message. If so, you can access this voicemail from the Recents interface.
Tones for each SIM
Those taking advantage of Dual-SIM functionality now have the ability to create different ringtones for each SIM and choose a SIM when calling back an unknown number. There is also an option to sort incoming messages by SIM card.
FaceTime
FaceTime reactions
This might be one of the funniest additions to iOS 17. The Messages app has had some word-triggered reactions for a while now, and in iOS 17, they’ve made their way to FaceTime. But instead of being provoked by words, reactions are triggered by gestures.Gestures activate screen effects like hearts, balloons, confetti, fireworks and more, and the effects flood the screen in the FaceTime window. According to each gesture, the result is the following:
- Heart – Heart emoji.
- Thumbs up – Thumbs up emoji.
- Two thumbs up – fireworks.
- individual thumbs down – Thumbs down emoji.
- two thumbs down – Cloud.
- one hand peace sign – Guard.
- Two hands peace sign – Confetti.
- Two-handed “Rock on” signal – Lasers.
Audio and video messages
When you FaceTime someone and they can’t respond, may leave a video or audio message depending on the calling method you used. After the missed call, you will see the “Save Video” option, which will allow you to create a message. You’ll also get a preview of your video and the option to re-record if it didn’t go well. The recipient can see the message in Missed FaceTime calls and come back from there to resend the call.
FaceTime and Apple TV
With iOS 17 and tvOS 17, you can use FaceTime on Apple TV. There is a new FaceTime app in tvOS 17, but to use it you need an iPhone running iOS 17 or an iPad running iPadOS 17 to act as a camera because Apple TV doesn’t have a camera.
The result basically like using FaceTime on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, but with a larger screen. The iPhone will need to be held near the TV to capture video, and the person you’re video calling with will be displayed on the TV.
