News has recently circulated that WhatsApp will stop working on the original iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S plus, and iPhone SE. a news that seems to have been the result of an errorbecause the minimum system requirements to run WhatsApp on an iPhone remain the same: run iOS 10.
An iOS version problem
WhatsApp occasionally drops support for older devices, but it does so entirely for one version of the operating system. A few months ago, for example, it stopped supporting iOS 9, so iPhone 4S and earlier could no longer use the app.
The iPhone 5, 5C, meanwhile, as long as we update them, they can run iOS 10, so they can still use WhatsApp today. Something similar happens with iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 which can run iOS 12. Since iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus or first generation iPhone SE, we already upgrade to iOS 15, the latest version currently available.
So the WhatsApp compatibilityAssuming Facebook drops support for a major release every year, it looks like this:
- iPhone 4S and earlier: not compatible.
- iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C: compatible for half a year more at least.
- iPhone 5S and iPhone 6: supported for at least two and a half years.
- iPhone 6S and later: supported for at least five and a half years.
As we can see, WhatsApp support remains for quite some time. The above list is based on the assumption that, as happened last October, Facebook will drop support for iOS 10 in a few months and repeat the move every year. an assumption that puts us in the worst possible scenario, but this may not be the case. Considering what has been seen, WhatsApp remains for years.
