Apple announced during the WWDC in 2019 that manufacturers would have the opportunity to integrate their routers with HomeKit, the company's home app. Whether the router is compatible with what the platform offers certain safety benefits if we have intelligent resources, such as choosing to uninstall them from the firewall.
At the end of January, at Applesfera we noted that one of the producers would be eero, Amazon-owned company and special for these devices. Although a few weeks ago the update predicts the coming integration, now eero has officially confirmed it.
Available for both eero and eero Pro models
If you have Wi-Fi mesh eero or eero pro routers, the update should already appear on the mobile devices app. To install it you need to press only on the app's "Discover" tab. After completing the process, routers will be available in the Home app.
Apple offers three levels of protection routers with HomeKit:
- "Restrict Home": the safest. The add-on can only work with HomeKit with our Apple devices. It will not be connected to the Internet or other local devices with third-party applications, such as software updates.
- "Default": automatic security. The add-on can communicate with HomeKit and the manufacturer-recommended connections.
- "Forbidden": at least it's safe. This setting overrides the router's security and allows the input to communicate with any device in the network or Internet service.
Two types of eero router are available on Amazon Spain, it costs a set of 3 units
"basic" 279.00 euros, and 499,00 euros in a set of 3 Pro units.
