Alexa is one of the two most popular personal assistants in Europe, the other being Google Assistant, of course. One of the big reasons for this success lies in the versatility of the assistant, either with the integrated functions or with the use of third-party skills.

Now Alexa will finally be able to adapt to the smallest members of the family, thanks to the launch of Amazon Kids in Alexa, a feature that, although not new, is now available in Spanish and in our country.
Amazon Kids for Alexa
Basically, this novelty allows us to create a special profile for children in Alexa, which will have certain limitations and can be controlled by adults in the house. Therefore, it is a way to allow our sons and daughters to use Alexa without fearing what they may be doing or searching on the internet.
Related to the latter, perhaps Amazon Kids’ most important feature is parental controls, accessible through a control panel in the Alexa app. From there, we can create new users with a new voice and visual identifier, which will be for the exclusive use of each child. The control panel will allow us to check the history of the use that children give to Alexa, as well as limit the services and skills that they can use.
Alexa will be able to recognize the child’s voice and automatically switch to Kids mode; this means that the results of the commands you receive will be different, or you may simply not respond if we decided to block the feature or skill you requested. The answers offered by Alexa will be adapted to the youngest age of the child, and will also include specific questions, such as “What is your favorite supervillain?”
Another limitation is that users marked as children will not be able to make purchases on Amazon, which is surely a great relief for parents who have received strange orders at the door. This was one of the big initial controversies for Alexa, due to its integration with our Amazon account.
Of course, kids will also be able to initiate calls and video calls, but only to approved contacts from within the app; and similarly, they will only be able to play music that does not contain explicit lyrics on services such as Amazon Music, Apple Music, or Spotify.
Although perhaps the most useful function for parents is communication within the home. Instead of shouting, we can just tell Alexa to let our children know that the food is ready or that they have to get ready to go out, for example. Added to all this is the development of special skills for Amazon Kids, such as that of Pocoyo.
