While AI isn’t exactly a new technology, it’s only been a few months since we’ve really seen some cool applications available to everyone, like ChatGPT and its ability to create texts from scratch.
[Las IA para crear imágenes han roto el mercado y ahora les llueven las demandas]
It seems that suddenly everything is going too fast, and the officials themselves warn that humanity will need time to adapt to this technology. In the meantime, we’re going to see a lot of scandals over the use or abuse of AI, and TikTok has given us a good example.
The most realistic beauty filter
Bold Glamor immediately became a viral sensation on TikTok. At first glance, this is a simple beauty filter, like the one many apps have; It is able to eliminate wrinkles and blemishes, apply make-up and change the shape of certain parts such as the jaw or the nose. So far nothing special.

The reason why Bold Glamor has caused so much controversy is because of the incredible results it achieves. Unlike other filters, the resulting image is very realistic, so much so that it managed to surprise even professionals who are dedicated to creating filters. In fact, rather than applying a filter, it looks like applying invents a new face and gives it to usfollowing our movements perfectly.
The key to Bold Glamor lies in the use of machine learning; In other words, it is an Artificial Intelligence that analyzes our face and applies changes. What’s striking, as filter creator Luke Hurd explains, is that the filter isn’t applied in the traditional way.
@rosaura_alvrz Responding to @lilmisty_diaz yes love but we continue to move in an unrealistic world and every day it’s easier to fall into a version that isn’t us – new features like video upload are amazing but still blurring the lines – don’t get me wrong, I’ve used filters and love a few of them, especially on days when I don’t fancy makeup or good lighting, but these didn’t look as realistic as these; Anyway, my wish is that we all turn into self-acceptance and self-love 💖 #filters #selflove #selfacceptance ♬ original sound – Rosaura Alvarez
Typically, filtering applications look for reference points, such as our eyes and mouth, and create a 3D mesh on which they apply various effects and which moves along with these points. That is why, for example, if we cover part of our face with one hand, the application loses these references and does not know what to do. Instead, the AI seems to work by analyzing each “frame” or image, applying the effect separately to each one; this is how you understand when the face has been partially covered and apply the effect only on the visible part. In a video, it is clearly seen how the effect does not go away until the user completely covers their face.
This is what makes the effect so realistic, but that’s not good news for everyone. Bold Glamor got a lot of haters, and most of the criticism is about how easy it is now pretend to be someone you’re not; beauty filters have already been criticized for the same reason, but with this AI it’s much harder to notice.
