A new test update is coming to the Google Pixel to assess its proper functioning. But it’s not Android 13, but still Android 12: the QPR3, a version of the system that matches the quarterly updatesreached its beta 2. And it can now be downloaded.
Until now, we were used to Google maintaining a stable version of Android, with its respective updates, and another development version corresponding to the next major update of the Android key
Android 12 quarterly update is almost ready
Google offers QPR betas as the period during which the system is tested in order to update it with improvements, fixes and bug fixes every three months. QPR betas are released for Google mobiles, but the tested code eventually reaches the version of Android that everyone can use as a base, the AOSP.
Immersed in the development of Android 13, Google has released beta 2 of the future quarterly update of Android 12 with a significant leap in connectivity: Google has included a new modem in the firmware with better compatibility with 5G bands. Aside from the jump in connectivity, Beta 2 is more stable and fixes bugs.
Although the change between the previous beta 1 and the current beta 2 does not involve excessive novelties, it is worth understanding what this testing process means for Android. Since QPR3 is separate from Android 13 DP, those who update their Pixel to the new Beta 2 they maintain android 12 and additionally they also have android 12L. Google combined the two lines to make the testing process (a little) easier.
Android 12 QPR3 beta 2 is a fairly stable firmware despite having been tested, quite the opposite of Android 13 which is experimental. Said Android 13 will soon receive its respective beta: its deployment is scheduled for this month of April. As always, Google makes it easy.
