With Android 12 Material you have arrived and with Android 13 Google is going a step further with more customization options. Concretely, and as it was leaked a few months ago, Android 13 allows you choose from many other color palettes generated from wallpaper.
This novelty is already available in Android 13 Beta 1, offering more control than ever over the colors that are going to be used in the system. If with Android 12 you had the choice between four color palettes, in Android 13 Beta 1 there are two dozen.
More pallets to choose from
One of the keys to Material You is dynamic colors, which change the look of the system and some apps using colors taken from the wallpaper. Google has made sure that the palette it generates is accessible and has enough contrast, but there is no single way to extract colors from an image, so users have the option to choose from several options.
From the heading Wallpaper and styling from the settings, users could already choose between four wallpaper-based palettes since Android 12, but options multiply with Android 13. Palettes now have horizontal scrolling and there are no less than 20 options to choose from.
all these possibilities are always based on the wallpaper, while prioritizing different elements when generating the palette. For example, some of them implement flatter colors, while others favor colors that are saturated or with greater variety.
Basing them all on the same image, it is predictable that they will be relatively similar to each otheralthough you will notice the difference when applying it to the system or when using the widget that is part of the Android 12 easter egg, which is still available in Android 13. If you prefer to choose colors by hand, you still have the option of using basic colorswhere you have 16 options to choose from.
