Google already distributes Android Auto 6.0 on Google Play, and you can download it in advance via its APK. It’s not the revolution one would expect after hitting a major new release, although at least it anticipates one of the new things that should be coming: the wallpapers for android auto.
We learned in November that Android Auto would let you customize its appearance with wallpapers, and it was speculated that Google would take advantage of Android Auto’s next major update to kick off this and other development. Android Auto goes virtually one major release per year. Version 5.0 was released in early January 2020 and, a year later, it was Android Auto 6.0’s turn. Change the number, but nothing else, at least for now. Google has the sometimes frustrating habit of introducing improvements from a distance and doesn’t coincide with the release of a new version, so we’ll have to wait.
From Android Auto, several new features are expected which were revealed after APK review of previous versions. The first is support for change the wallpaper. We met it back in November and with a somewhat random collection of wallpapers, which have now changed in the latest Android Auto APK, according to 9to5Google.
If on previous occasions seven wallpapers were discovered that would end up in Android Auto, now they are. twelve automotive inspired backgrounds
These wallpapers not yet available in Android Auto 6.0, as well as another new feature discovered in previous versions: shortcuts to assistant commands.
Considering the fact that the hints of these two new features can be found in the APK, it is more than likely that Google activates the news later, so on scale starting with a few users. For now, all you can do is keep the app up to date and be patient.
