Google I/O 2023 leaves no device out, including cars. Android has triple representation in cars, Android Auto, Android Automotive and Google Built-in, and Google has announced news for each of them.
A Android Auto will arrive apps like Zoom, while YouTube and the games will be exclusive for the moment of the Android integrated into the Google Built in car. Android Automotive is not to be outdone without its dose of novelties anticipating multi-screen support.
Android Auto with Zoom and other nightmares
The Android for cars that “lives” on our phones is the one that received the least news during Google I/O. Primarily, allowed app categories continue to open, including home automation apps and weather apps: we’ll soon have The Weather Channel app for Android Auto.
Perhaps the most controversial thing is that Google is working to bring work apps such as Zoom, Teams and Webex to Android Auto, so that we can answer (audio) calls from the car. They will arrive “in the next few months”.
Google integrated with YouTube and games
In Google Built-in, which resembles Android Automotive which includes Google apps and services, navigation apps can be integrated into the dashboard to display directions in front of the driver. Developers will also be able to useatos of automotive sensors in your applications such as fuel level or speed.
The most notable novelty that will come to cars with Google Built-in is that they open up the categories of video and games, with the car parked. So the manufacturers may offer YouTube and access to games like Beach Buggy Racing 2, Solitaire FRVR or My Talking Tom. Waze is also coming, which was already available for Android Auto but not for cars with Google Built-in.
The automobile and its multi-screen support
Finally, we have the most futuristic novelty of all: multi-screen support which will arrive with Android Automotive 14, the version based on the latest version of Android.
We will know more In the coming months, but it will be a system to take advantage of Android Automotive in cars that have multiple screens. For example, behind each seat.
