The most common is to locate an Android phone from another mobile or from a web browser, but it is also possible to find it using Android Auto or, as we will show you today, using your Android TV. And there is not just one way: we explain how to locate your mobile in the comfort of the chair.
Imagine you’re watching TV, grabbing your mobile and it’s out of reach. The usual thing is that it’s been hidden among the cushions, next to the nickel and the crisps, but no: it’s not there. Neither on the table, nor in the room… Well, better not turn around to find it: from your Android TV, you can follow it.
Three ways to find your mobile from the TV
Google offers a very powerful location service on all phones and tablets, including watches. To do this, it uses its Google Play services, a platform that enable location to be sent whenever the user requests it from their account. This request can be done in three ways regardless of the device:
- From the “Find my device” application.
- With the Google Assistant.
- Via the Web.
On Android TV, all three methods are enabled, although there is a downside: the google app is not directly compatible with televisions and players. Of course, you can jump this hurdle with a bit of skill.
Locate your phone from the app
You cannot install the Google app directly from the Android TV Play Store, but you can. download mobile apk. Let’s see the process:
- Use the connection method with your Android TV that you prefer. From using a USB key to our personal favourite: “File Commander PC File Transfer”.
- Download the latest “Find My Device” APK: You can download the latest version from APK Mirror (you may need its installer for Android TV).
- Send the installation file to your Android or put it on a flash drive and connect it to the TV.
- Navigate from an Android TV compatible file explorer to the APK location (we recommend File Commander) and open the installer file.
- Install “Find My Device” on your Android TV and launch it.
- Once installed, open the application, select your Google account, the one to which you have associated the mobile to locate, and type the password.
- You will see the location of the phone on your TV screen. And you can ring it to locate it, for example.
Find your mobile with the browser
Android TV doesn’t come with a web browser, but you can install one from the store. Even Google Chrome, its operation is well adapted to the TV. Once you have your browser on Android TV, do the following:
Ask the Google Assistant
It is the most comfortable, but not the most complete: the assistant on Android TV will only ring your mobile, it won’t put it on the map. Also, since you have multiple devices added to your account, you’ll have to go one by one telling Google Assistant “No” until you find the one you’ve chosen.
The process is simple: launch Google Assistant with your Android TV remote and say “Where’s my phone”. The wizard will ask you if you want it to ring; or you can switch to the next registered mobile, it will all depend on which ones you have added.
