Shortly after learning that one of the developments of the most installed chat application in Europe is about to change the way the camera is used, WhatsApp announced the arrival of filters and backgrounds for video calls. A novelty that completely changes these communications in which video is the main protagonist.

The idea is that WhatsApp video calls, which usually bring family members together at certain times of the year to celebrate birthdays or Christmas, become more fun and enjoyable with the possibility for each participant to liven up the meeting with a fun image as is the case with these filters and backgrounds.

It’s not that this is anything new in the video calling experience, since Google Meet itself has been offering filters for a long time this makes them more attractive, the only thing that WhatsApp, present on almost all connected mobile phones in Europe, introduces many users to this type of meetings in which you can “disguise” yourself in almost anything.

What WhatsApp has done is released 10 filters and 10 backgrounds in Europe to give those video calls something more special. Filters are all these: Warm, cold, black and white, light leak, dreamy, prism light, fisheye, retro TV, frosted glass and duo tone.

There is an important point in this new update that has arrived, which is that now a new option to replace the light calls and thus have a better appearance even when the light is not adapted to the environment or the moment in which the participant is located.

In addition to being able to improve the appearance of these meetings, WhatsApp also included 10 new backgrounds: Blur, Living Room, Office, Cafe, Pebbles, Gourmet, Softness, Beach, Sunset, Party and Forest. Of course, the blur option is the most used because it highlights the person appearing in the foreground, but it wouldn’t be bad to try them all.

These new options appear directly during a video call with another person or a group call, Click on the effects icon at the top right and the new filters and backgrounds will appear to choose one. It was just announced just now, so as with these deployments, the update could be available in a few hours or in the next few days or weeks.
