Among Apple’s big bets for the future, we find not only projects to improve current products, but also others to create new lines. Among these are self-driving cars, a market that those of Cupertino do not want to miss. Not only to participate in the development of its technology, but even to develop its own car.
While it’s not yet entirely clear whether we’ll finally see an Apple Car, it has been made public that the company is experimenting on California roads. To do this, they rely on a fleet of autonomous vehicles. A fleet that varies in number of vehicles over time, but which recently reached 69 vehicles
The company uses the vehicles to test the technologies they are developing under the authorization of the California authorities. For this reason, must disclose the autonomous vehicles that are in circulation, as well as the drivers responsible for supervising them. There are also permits for vehicles that do not have a driver on board, however, Apple has not requested this class.
As to whether these measures will have an impact on future Apple products, it remains to be seen. For now, and despite rumors, there has been no confirmation from Apple on the existence of a possible Apple Car. It is also unclear whether they will work with other manufacturers to implement their technology in third-party vehicles.
What is clear is that Apple is very interested in getting into the automotive business, one way or another. And next to augmented reality, could be one of Apple’s pillars for the next few years.
