In the keynote of September 2017, with the launch of the new and revolutionary iPhone X, Tim Cook and his team also announced the AirPower. Taking advantage of the novelty of wireless charging for the new iPhone, the company wanted to launch a new concept of “all-in-one” charger.
Two years later, after a long wait and a list of rumors about the said device, Apple canceled the project, and the Air power
Marc Gurman just posted on its Bloomberg blog that Apple is still determined to make a multi-device wireless charger, its famous AirPower, which has never been released.
It would be a different concept from the current charger MagSafe duo. The one you can buy today are two chargers, one MagSafe for iPhone and one for Apple Watch, “stuck” into one case.
The idea would be some sort of larger mat, where you can drop any Apple device in any area of the charger, and have it charge wirelessly, whether it’s a iPhone, some AirPods, or one Apple watch, alone or several at the same time.
Gurman also comments that Apple’s idea is that the reverse charge be a reality in the not too distant future. this would mean that from the back of your iPhone, you have the option at any time to charge your AirPods or your Apple Watch.
The truth is, there are plenty of third-party “all-in-one” chargers on the market that can charge an iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods case simultaneously, but they’re all different device-specific chargers. bound together with a variety of shell designs of different designs.
Apple wants to come full circle with sound Multi-device charger mat unified. This is where the technical difficulty of the invention lies. We’ll see if he finally comes out. Or not…
