Apple had until tomorrow, December 9, to apply the only one of the nine judgments that the American court had rendered to it concerning the legal battle against Epic Games. This decision requires Apple to allow developers to offer alternative payment methods, external to the App Store, for their in-app purchases.
And although Apple has unsuccessfully appealed the conviction, a petition has now reached it in Cupertino. have more time to apply this change in the App Store. From now on, the court is delaying this deadline indefinitely and allows Apple to better prepare for this integration of external purchases.
By the hair: prolonged duration of a few hours after exhaustion
The arguments which finally convinced the court, to the bad news of Epic Games, are the “excessive complications” that the engineers of the App Store must make to make the change. This can be read in the original resolution, shared among others by 9to5Mac:
“It will take months to find the engineering, economics, business and other factors behind these changes.”
For the court, Apple has shown that the change it must apply to the App Store “involves a minimum of serious questions which call into question the court’s decision”. Now these changes can be applied more calmly … although we keep in mind that Apple’s ultimate intention is to make sure that ultimately this doesn’t have to be done..
It all depends on the end of this new extended appeal and the court’s decision. Right now Apple has just had the App Store continue to operate with unchanged standards for what will surely be a few weeks or even a few months more.
