After the introduction of the Mac Studio and the Apple Studio Display, Apple quietly discontinued the 27-inch iMac. Apple claims that has no plans to launch a new 27-inch iMacwhich gave strength to a possible iMac Pro, the one that also just lost integers, according to 9to5mac.
An iMac with an uncertain future
During the Peek performance presentation, Apple made it clear that only the Mac Pro was left to make the leap to Apple silicon. This ruled out the transition to the 27-inch iMac, which is no longer available in the Apple Store. Automatically, rumors of a new iMac, possibly a 30- or 32-inch one, possibly called Pro, picked up steam.
After all, the way to communicate the disappearance of the “27-inch iMac” left room for a model with other inches. Although it looks like it won’t. According to 9to5Mac sources, Apple has no plans to release an iMac with a larger screen in the near future.
The publication, moreover, relies heavily on the sources, since they are the same ones who revealed the plans for the Mac Studio and the Studio Display before their launch. Thus, Apple would not work on any iMac, because “has no plans to release a new, more powerful version of its all-in-one computer at this time”.
According to 9to5mac, that not only includes the larger version, but also the fact that the current 24-inch iMac won’t come with an M1 Pro, Max, or Ultra. Apparently Apple is working on a new 24-inch iMac by 2023, but similar to the 13-inch MacBook Air or MacBook Pro, don’t think about the most powerful processors.
As always, we need to take this information with some perspective. always fair, Apple plans can change quickly. More considering that much of the design work is already done thanks to existing redesigned models and the availability of new chips. For now, the next stop will be WWDC, we’ll see if there’s any news that gives us clues about the future of the iMac.
