It was a rumor a long time ago and we even found traces of it with the launch of the Smart Battery Case, but the trace was lost: we had even forgotten that we even thought we could charge our AirPods with the iPhone itself.
It’s something many Android devices have (I checked it out myself when I was using a Xiaomi 12 for a month and loved the experience), so it makes sense that we wonder why Apple does not have this feature. After a long time, at 9to5Mac, they seem to have understood what is going on.
Distribution of heat and load, the main issues
As the media has exclusively discovered, Apple has been working to be able to release this function on the iPhone 14 Pro. The work involved in particular the components necessary to achieve this load and to optimize iOS enough to be able to offer it. without straining the battery or heating up the device too much
Unfortunately, the engineers did not arrive in time. And they must have significant difficulties, because if we listen to the rumors that they are trying since the iPhone 12.
Now, just because they failed to launch this reverse charge doesn’t mean they gave up. Apparently the team tasked with making it a reality are continuing to work against the clock to be able to launch it on a future generation of iPhones, although the source is already warning that the difficulty may mean we won’t see it for a few years. . And this, if the project does not end up failing entirely due to its limitations.
In other words: I wouldn’t expect to see this reverse charging on the iPhone 15. Maybe the new Qi2 standard that Apple is preparing with other manufacturers is exactly what they need, but it there is still time before this new standard is completed.
