The idea is to offer something that users can place in the kitchen, in the living room or on their bedside table. But Apple has also been working on an iPad docking accessory that it could sell separately and accomplish much the same thing.

The truth is that an accessory like this makes a lot of sense. Almost makes more sense than launching a new HomePod with a screen. After all, an iPad will always be much more useful than this device, and when we’re not using it, it might become more useful. It’s definitely a smart idea.
