Apple has obtained a new patent related to a smart ring, it will be used to interact in mixed reality mode.
Apple does not stop at the development of new products and accessories. According to a new patent issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office, there is a patent focused on measuring objects through a smart ring. Previously, 2 patents related to the augmented reality measuring app have been revealed so that a new user can determine the best size for an Apple Watch.
Measuring better with a smart ring, the next step in Apple’s augmented reality
How will this work? Everything will be in a 3D environment spanning different devices, systems and methods. The measurement technique will be improved over time. it is a physical input mechanism. It can be by measuring an object with your finger (from one end to the other), also according to our gaze or with the smart ring itself.
In the patent the intention to launch an accessory such as a ring is not so exposed, it can be searched as a “controller”. What is a reality is that Patently Apple discovered another patent that specifies what the smart ring will be used for, it will be involved in mixed reality applications.
Other brands that also think of a smart ring
According to the Patently Apple note, there are companies other than Cupertino that are looking for the same accessory. Samsung, Google and Amazon, the latter of which did not thrive and was phased out in 2020.
In May, Microsoft released an application for its own smart ring. Its operation is curious since it is associated with a smartwatch although it is not completely united, It is independent and can work to control devices such as laptops, tablets, glasses and smart watches.
What Apple has in hand is very promising, knowing that in recent years they have made an effort to provide a positive augmented reality experience.
