‘Defending Jacob’, the series starring Chris Evans in which a father tries to prove the innocence of his son apparently involved in a crime, is no longer exclusive to Apple TV +. All its chapters appeared for sale on Amazon in physical format. It does not affect its availability on Apple TV +, you can continue to watch the series on the service without any problem.
At the moment, they are only available in the United States, but you can choose between the format DVD ($ 19.99) o Blu ray ($ 34.99). The DVD version also appears on Amazon Europe, although it is an imported product and the price goes up to 31.52 dollars plus shipping costs.
A journey into the past of formats
The movement is … strange. Apple devices haven’t included DVD disc players for a decade, and has never been compatible with Blu-Ray discs. At least officially. In 2021, with streaming catalogs being the kings of entertainment, a physical launch of an Apple TV + series was the least we expected.
“Defending Jacob” will run out of chapters, so maybe Apple has allowed the production studios (Paramount Television and Anonymous Content) to try their luck by releasing the series on discs and testing if they generate any sales. Other possible reasons … I’m afraid I can’t help but shrug my shoulders. Maybe we’ll see more releases in this format as more playoff seasons come to an end?
