Apple on Monday released a series of security updates for macOS Sonoma and macOS Ventura, two older operating systems. The updates come on the same day that Apple officially released macOS Sequoia, the latest version of the Mac operating system.
The update brings macOS Sonoma to version 14.7; Ventura is at version 13.7. The release notes with details on the security fixes for each operating system are available online:
While Apple has made progress on Sequoia, the company will update older versions of macOS with security patches and bug fixes for a number of years. The company recognizes that not all Mac installations can be upgraded to the latest operating system, so it provides updates to maintain security integrity.
How to install updates
Before installing the update, we recommend that you back up your Mac. Installation requires an internet connection and your Mac will need to restart.
- Click on the Apple menu and select System Settings.
- In the left column, click on General.
- In the main section, click on Software Update.
- The Mac will check for the update. If it is available for installation, you can click Update now to continue. If you don’t see the update, check again later.
