If you want to update AirPods to this new firmware version, you need to follow the following steps and have a little patience. Updating AirPods isn’t as simple as updating an iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch. Apple assures that The update happens automatically when your iPhone, iPad, or Mac is near the AirPods.
Firmware updates are delivered periodically while your AirPods are charging and within Bluetooth range of your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
It is true that you can try to “force” the AirPods to update. The first thing we recommend is connect the AirPods to the iPhone as you normally do, enter Settings and the “AirPods” menu that appears in the upper area and check the firmware version below that they have.
