Apple has started playing with Image Playground!
The new generative image creation features announced by Apple will not be available with the launch of the official version of iOS 18. Faced with this decision, those of the bitten apple have decided to compensate for the patience of users with the presentation of the first image created by Apple Intelligencewhich graces one of WIRED’s most recent publications, rather than one of its marketing products.
Apple has unconventionally released an image created by Apple Intelligence
The image in question is inspired by a special guest. Meet Apple Senior Vice President Craig Federighi’s dog, named Bailey.. As WIRED explains, Apple took advantage of Bailey’s original recent birthday photo and requested a similar result to the original via text message.
Although the image with the result was sent without a watermark, WIRED has complied with the editorial policy on AI-generated contentby adding a watermark indicating that the image was created using this technology.
How is Apple addressing the challenges of AI-generated images?
As AI continues to evolve, We will probably see more and more images generated by this technology in our daily lives. This poses significant challenges for society as a whole. Other companies, such as Google, quickly confronted the controversy that arose within days of Pixel Studio’s debut.
But Apple has decided to guard against the risk of confusion between these images and reality. According to various reports, the company will offer a limited set of non-photorealistic styles: Users can choose between “animation”, “sketch” or “illustration” style.
The image of Craig’s dog appears to have been generated using the animation style, which is apparently meant to resemble Pixar’s CGI models. Although there is no proof that the resemblance is real, as no original photos were provided for comparison.
Apple’s position is clear. AI is not intended to deceive, but rather offers capabilities that can be leveraged daily with simple queries.
Image Playground, in particular, is touted as a versatile tool that lets you generate images in a variety of styles, from animations to sketches. While Genmoji offers a whole new way to express yourself, allowing users to create custom emojis to fit any situation. Both will be available with the launch of iOS 18.2
Which devices are compatible with Apple Intelligence?
Users interested in testing Apple Intelligence’s capabilities will need an iPhone 15 Pro or later, or an iPad or Mac with the M1 chip or later.
The first set of Apple Intelligence features will launch with iOS 18.1 in October, in the United States. And it will likely expand to other countries later. For now, these do not include those in the European Union, as Apple has to catch up on some regulations first.
As confirmed by Apple, Apple Intelligence will be available in other languages starting next year, including Spanish.
