In a new interview, two Apple executives were able to comment the great variety and possibilities offered by the Apple Watch in terms of bracelets, its design and everything behind it.
Evans Hankey, vice president of industrial design at Apple and Stan Ng, vice president of product marketing, spoke to Hypebeast about Apple Watch bands. If you are Apple Watch users, you will know the wide range of types, materials and colors that we have available to customize our device in an agile way, adapting it to every occasion, becom ing one of the accessories on which the most is invested in a Manzana product.
On the possibility of changing the dials, the style of your strap and its color, even the color and material of the Apple Watch itself, Hankey says that users have “an incredible number of possible combinations” to define their own style each time.
One of the maxims that characterizes the Apple Watch in this regard is that the bracelets serve us from model to model, from year to year, as long as we keep the size of our watch. For example, with the new Apple Watch Series 7, Apple has increased the watch sizes to 41 and 45mm, but the bands for the 40 and 44mm models are compatible with their corresponding increments.
Hankey was keen to point out that Maintaining this “backward compatibility” between old bracelets and new models is a top priority for the Apple Watch team. Something which, personally, reassures us a lot. Knowing that the money that we are going to invest in the belts of any model will serve us, is undoubtedly an incentive to continue to do so.
From the first Apple Watch to the current Series 7, interchangeability has been the cornerstone of the product. From the style and color of the strap, the material of the watch case and the watch face you have chosen and personalized, Apple Watch offers an incredible number of potential combinations, which can be counted in the thousands. Whenever we’ve refined the design of the Apple Watch, we’ve made every effort to maintain compatibility with previous models, even though the display has grown larger over the years.
For us, the bracelet is by no means a purely technological matter: each bracelet expresses our love for the materials, the craftsmanship and the manufacturing process.
Despite all that has been rumored and has come out on patents, Apple Watch bands do not incorporate any technology, but their design plays an important role according to those polled to ensure that the functionality of the Apple Watch is not interrupted. Ng said that Apple Watch bracelets feature “innovations” to ensure their comfort and not spoil the Apple Watch experience.
It is clear that Apple Watch bands are a round business for Apple and to which we as users are very attracted. We are certainly relieved to know that it seems we will be able to continue to use our bracelets in future models of the Cupertino watch.
