Apple TV+ changes strategy and announces this new Spanish series

announces, Apple, series, Spanish, Strategy

This is no longer a crazy or even founded theory. Apple TV+ opens up to Spanish series already produced. All this in the midst of turmoil around the platform's economic model and its profitability. And if he bought a Disney+ series a few months ago, the Spanish series “You Should Also”, now he will do the same with that of Atresplayer.

The Californian platform announced this week the acquisition of “A muerte” rights for 2025. Unlike that of Disney+, this series created by Dani de la Orden (“Elite”, “El Pregón”) will be broadcast in its entirety on Apple TV+ and will be broadcast worldwide from February. And the premise from which it starts is most striking.

It's been a year and a half since Atresplayer announced the start of filming for 'A muerte', a series produced entirely by the company Atresmedia and which was supposed to be broadcast on this same platform. However, we now know that Apple has acquired the rights and premieres February 5 on Apple TV+ exclusively.

As the platform indicates, the first two episodes will be broadcast that day to continue with a new weekly until reaching seven chapters. The series will therefore be available in its entirety on March 13. We don't know if there will be a second season, but for now the idea is in these seven chapters already filmed at the end of last year.

This series is dressed as a romantic comedy with Véronique Echegui (“I am Juani”, “The patio of my prison”) and Joan Amargos (“Paradise”, “Manticore”). The Madrid native will play Marta, who defines herself as a free spirit and sees her life change when, pregnant, she finds Raúl, a character played by the Catalan actor.

Raúl has just been diagnosed with a terrible heart cancer, so his reunion with an old love like Marta at this very moment makes him begin to test everything he thought he knew about love. And all with a Marta who, we insist, as a good free spirit, is allergic to commitment.

The cast is completed by other actresses and actors such as Paula Malia, Cristian Valencia, Claudia Melo, Joan Solé, Roger Coma, Julián Villagrán and David Bagés. All led by Dani of the Order and with the production of Montse García (“La ruta”) and Elena Bort (“Ana Tramel. El Juego”).

With “A muerte”, Apple TV+ reaffirms its commitment to Spanish content. Previously we have seen series like the aforementioned “You Would Too”, “Land of Women” or “From Time to Time”. However, this news is the only case in which the production and original language of the series and the actors are entirely in Spanish.

It is one of the most beautiful towns in USA, but little known: a magical place in the heart of Empordà. One of the best Apple series was filmed here

This represents a change in strategy on the part of Apple, not only by being interested in the productions of our country, but also by try to get closer to the public with series already produced by other platforms as is the case of 'A muerte' with Atresplayer. Something with which the platform hopes to collect more viewers given the aforementioned doubts about its profitability.

In recent months we have already seen unprecedented moves in USA for Apple TV+, such as its association with Movistar Plus+. And at the same time, the idea of including cheaper packages with global advertising continues to be considered, which would bring it closer to the Netflix, Disney+ or Amazon Prime Video models.
