Apple launched yesterday an urgent security update that had to be removed urgently as it has caused crashes in websites and apps, and promises a solution shortly.
iOS 16.5.1 (and the corresponding version of iPadOS) was released yesterday. It was specifically the iOS 16.5.1(a) release which came in the form of the recently released “Rapid Security Updates”. They are small quick updates, so they do not take long to download and once installed on our device, they have the particularity of being able to be uninstalled. This update fixes a serious security flaw in Safariso installing it was more than recommended, but soon after it disappeared from their servers, and those who didn’t install it immediately couldn’t because the option didn’t even appear in their device settings.
And it is that this security update has solved this security flaw but This caused some websites and apps to stop working properly, due to changes in Safari. Apple itself has acknowledged the failure and promises a solution shortly.
Apple is aware of an issue where this Express Security Update may prevent certain websites from displaying correctly. Rapid Security Response iOS 16.5.1(b) and iPadOS 16.5.1(b) will be available soon to address this issue.
What if you installed the update? You may not notice anything and everything works fine for you. Some of the websites that didn’t work with this version are Facebook and Instagram, so if you don’t usually visit them, you might not even realize the problem exists. In such a case, all you can do is wait for the new update and that’s it. But if you notice these issues on some websites and apps, you can uninstall yesterday’s update very easily
