Last Wednesday, along with the iPhone 14 and Apple Watch Series 8, Apple introduced the new Apple Watch Ultra. A presentation centered on the athletes, but which does not mean that this watch should be reserved for athletes. Personally, I bought one; Allow me to explain my reasons.
Screen, screen and more screen (and battery too)
I have been an Apple Watch user since the original. I use it a lot. A lot. that of having a screen at my disposal with the lift of my wrist is essential for notifications, emails, messages, reminders, shortcuts, calendars, among others. I don’t lead a sedentary lifestyle by far, I close my rings practically every day, but I can’t call myself an athlete either, let alone the kind we saw during the presentation of this watch. So why did I buy an Apple Watch Ultra?
Two main reasons: screen size and battery life. Every time the Apple Watch has increased in screen size, I have flown to get one and this time it was more or less the same. When rumors told us of a 48 or 49 millimeter case, I automatically focused my attention on the Ultra and left the Series 8 behind.
A large screen where you can see the information makes interaction much easier. In watchOS 9, in addition, which I tested during the summer, hundreds of details are added to modify events, reminders, manage contacts and everything else that takes up space on the screen. Or rather, looks better on a bigger screen. So the bigger screen an Apple Watch can offer is one of my main reasons for buying.
At the same time, there is the problem of the battery. In general, a larger device size means longer battery life due to the extra size Apple has to put in more capacity. So it was with the Apple Watch Ultra. We are talking about 60 hours of autonomy which will arrive with a software update in a few months. I repeat, 60 hours. i.e. a minimum of two and a half days of uninterrupted use or four days if we only use it during the day
And that’s all? for me there is more
Screen size and battery life are two fundamental things to get this watch, but there are a few more. I’ve always bought Apple Watches without cellular connectivity
Finally, years ago I was interested in a sapphire crystal screen. Knowing that we are facing a screen that is almost impossible to scratch is something that has always caught my attention. In the past, I saw no reason to buy a steel Apple Watch, preferring to renew more often than invest more in a watch, but now the story changes.
Thus, a larger screen, accompanied by a better battery, which also comes in a much more resistant screen and with an LTE connection is what, from the first rumors, made me decide to buy this watch. Sport? Never say never, but I won’t use it for that. Active yes, athlete no. And yet, I bought the Apple Watch Ultra.
