Kuo said on his Twitter that Apple may launch a new HomePod very soon
A new rumor suggests that Apple is trying to better position itself in the smart speaker market with a new HomePod which would happen in the coming months.
Reliable and accurate analyst and backer, Ming-Chi Kuo said via Twitter that Apple is preparing to launch a new HomePod for the fourth quarter of this year or for the first quarter of next year 2023.
“Apple would launch a new version of HomePod at 4Q22-1Q23, and there might not be much innovation in hardware design. Smart speakers are undoubtedly one of the essential elements of the home ecosystem, but I think Apple is still figuring out how to be successful in that market.”
It was not very precise on what type of speaker it will arrive, since one could think of a second generation of the “mini” version. However, for the moment it does not seem necessary since it has served its main purpose, giving users a speakerphone with their music service, Siri support for certain functions like an assistant, and access to home automation control for HomeKit-enabled devices.
But after Apple decided last year to pull the original HomePod from the market because production costs were not reflected in the profitability of the product The possibility presents itself that a large HomePod will reappear with a cost-cutting plan that allows it to offer significant and better innovations than the HomePod mini.
Although this is only speculation, the current need for a new HomePod with good sound and to be at the center of a home ecosystem, as Kuo mentions, would cause Apple to rethink the possibility of have it in stores a better speaker that apart from being competitive also aspires to outperform current options on the market
Even the original HomePod managed to gain more value although it stopped selling, because we must not forget that its audio quality was one of the most appreciated aspects by users.
9to5mac recently showed off a concept for a new touchscreen HomePod that just might be one of the new ways to innovate this product. Hope Apple can surprise us and that a HomePod redesign is happening, that’s exciting.
