The company has acquired classical music platform Primephonic and plans to launch a new app.
It was in 2021 that Apple announced the acquisition of Primephonic, a service platform in diffusion classical music that would be part of Apple Music. At least in theory, because almost two years have passed and we have yet to see the launch of a new app or a section specializing in classical music within Apple Music.
Shortly after acquiring Primephonic, Apple began posting jobs with technical UX skills. Which indicated an immediate start in the development of a classical music application.
Time is running out for Apple if it wants to meet guidelines set for launch plans for its classical music app. Will we soon see Mozart, Bach, Vivaldi and Beethoven on Apple Music?
Apple could launch a new classical music app or a new section of Apple Music
The new Apple Music app or category would mainly target replace primephonic goodnessoffering its users a unique and identifiable destination of diffusion classical music for iPhone, iPad, Mac and other compatible devices.
“Apple Music plans to release a dedicated classical music app next year that combines the classic Primephonic user interface that its fans have loved and other additional features.”
From the Primephonic site the indications go in the same direction, its press release (2021) urges its customers to wait for the arrival of a new Apple service “for next year”.
“Primephonic’s service has been taken offline. We are working on a new classical music experience from Apple for next year.”
To which they added that Apple Music was planning to launch an application dedicated to classical music. This is something we don’t really understand, why launch a new app when you can redirect users to Apple Music?
Be that as it may, in February certain references to “Open in Apple Classic” in the Apple Music app for Android. A service of which it is not clear if it would be developed as an independent application from the App Store or if it would be integrated into the operating system itself.
Apple will improve composer and repertoire search capabilities over Primephonic, as well as more detailed metadata for classical music.
