Apple today announced a long-awaited update to its flagship Mac accessory lines, replacing them with the proprietary Lightning standard and giving them USB-C ports instead.
The new versions of the Magic Keyboard, Magic Trackpad and Magic Mouse, revealed alongside the iMac M4 as part of the company’s exciting week of Mac announcements, are otherwise unchanged in design and pricing :
As The Verge spotted, via a clever use of Apple’s ‘View in AR’ mode, this unfortunately means the Magic Mouse still has its charging point at the bottom, meaning it still can’t be charged and used at the same time. This is a design quirk that has been the subject of much speculation over the years.

As noted above, the three accessories are each available in black or white on the Apple storefront, with the black version costing $20 more. As with the M1 and M3 iMac models, Apple also made them in other colors; they are simply not available on their own. If you pre-order the new iMac M4, it comes with a Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse bundled in the same color (blue, purple, pink, orange, yellow, green, or silver), and you can choose to upgrade level. the latter with a Magic Trackpad by paying an additional $50. At some point, Apple might sell these more dynamic accessories on their own (although after three years, that’s unlikely), but for now, you’ll have to save up for a brand new iMac if you really want them.
