New clues are revealed about Apple’s smart ring thanks to the granting of a new patent related to controlling other devices like the Apple Vision Pro
Although Samsung has already presented its Galaxy Unpacked smart ring in the past, Those from Cupertino have not yet given strong signs of wanting to launch theirs in the short term.. Apple Ring patents come and go, and today it was announced that a new related patent capable of controlling the Apple Vision Pro has been granted. Are we closer to seeing Apple’s smart ring?
A smart ring to monitor health and control other Apple devices
The latest patent discovered by Patently Apple describes a device that “operates independently and performs health monitoring operations”. This data may be shared (or not) with other devices, most likely with the iPhone for monitoring or with the devices of the doctor who is treating a patient for certain conditions.
What is striking is that The system implemented in the ring could collect information from the user himself and this would give him the power to control the operation of one or more devices.. The patent cites the following example:
A user may provide input to a device that causes one or more additional devices to perform particular actions (…). Providing touch, gesture, force, or button-press input to a device used to control content displayed on a screen (…).
Finally, The patent focuses on an illustration of a head-mounted device. This means that the ring can be used and connected to Apple Glasses or any headset or case designed for the user’s head.
Apple’s ring may not be just about health
Apple may have tweaked the orientation of its smart ring a bit. With what’s shown in the patent, the ring would allow for more precise control over what a user is doing. For example, if it integrates GPS, the user’s three-dimensional position in a location could be known, in addition to their orientation and movements.
Likewise, the patent would open the possibility that Apple seeks to innovate in the devices that we could wear on our heads. Knowing that Apple Vision Pro is one of the most expensive product lines of the brand, why not consider a first product line at an affordable price but with cutting-edge technology?
As Ben Lovejoy of 9to5Mac points out, if Apple decides to launch smart glasses with less technology than the Apple Vision Pro, the smart ring would provide information on the gestures made by a user without as many cameras as is the case with the latest innovative product. of those from Cupertino. We hope that by the end of 2024 we will be able to have more information on this project that could be interesting for some users.
