MacBook offers for Black Friday 2024: our advice
There are a few things to consider before making a purchase. Apple launched the latest M4 MacBook Pro models in late October 2024. The 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models feature new M4 chips, but they also offer more RAM than the previous generation. This means that when considering deals on older M3 Macs, it's important to take into account that there may be less RAM in these models, especially since Apple typically charges $200/200 £ to go from 8GB to 16GB. Additionally, the MacBook M3 Pro and M3 Max also had less RAM before, they now have 24GB of RAM as standard, instead of 18GB.
This doesn't just apply to the MacBook Pro. When the MacBook Pro M4 was introduced, Apple also doubled the MacBook Air M3's RAM from 8GB to 16GB as standard, a price reduction of $200/£200. So it's important to pay attention to how much RAM is included in an M3 MacBook Air, otherwise you may not get the bargain you think.

Is Apple offering discounts on Macs for Black Friday?
Apple is not lowering prices for Black Friday. Instead, it offers gift cards when you purchase certain items. For Apple's Black Friday deal in 2024, it's offering gift cards with MacBook Air purchases made on Apple's US site or Apple's UK site. Since they are so new, the M4 MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and iMac models are not included for 2024.

Is Apple's Black Friday deal worth it?
If you want to buy a MacBook Air in 2024 from Apple, taking advantage of Apple's offer means you will receive a $200/£160 Apple gift card towards the purchase of the 15-inch MacBook Air (M3), a $175/£140 Apple gift. Card with a 13-inch MacBook Air (M3) and $150/£120 Apple gift card with a 13-inch MacBook Air (M2).
Buying from Apple means you are guaranteed to buy the latest MacBook Air with 16GB of RAM as standard, while other retailers may clear out old stock with 8GB of RAM. You then have a voucher to spend on other Apple products – and with many of us spending money monthly through subscriptions, this could represent a real saving where it counts.
However, there are plenty of great deals to be found, as detailed above. Just make sure you buy the model with 16GB of RAM or get a reasonable discount otherwise.
- We tend to find that the biggest savings are on older models, but be aware that these aren't always the best value for money.
- Check the generation of the model being discounted to make sure you know exactly what you're buying and what it's actually worth.
- We have seen dealers shift to selling reconditioned or used models when stock of new models is depleted. So check that the model on sale is not actually a used Mac and is therefore not as good a deal as it seems.
- This doesn't mean you should avoid refurbished models – you just need to make sure you're not buying refurbished models unknowingly.
- Mac deals aren't limited to Black Friday. We see great deals all year round, so don't feel pressured to shop during Black Friday.
