In fact, A new rumor claims that Apple is working on an iPhone 17 Air, a new model that is much thinner than the rest and would sit between the standard model and the Pro model. In addition, this model would help Apple launch “something much better” later.

Halfway between the standard model and the Pro model: the iPhone 17 Air

Currently, the iPhone 15 is sold in the standard model, the Plus model, the Pro, and the Pro Max. However, if we look back, we all remember the iPhone 12 mini, which was the experiment before the launch of the Plus model. As many expected, the mini model was not as successful and Apple ended up discontinuing it with the launch of the next generation. Since then, The iPhone models are intended to be maintained with one big difference: standard models and Pro models.

Analyst Mark Gurman has released new information about upcoming Apple devices in his Sunday newsletter and among them is the one that has been named iPhone 17 Air,

a device that would see the light of day in September 2025 and which It would be halfway between the standard model and the Pro, i.e. a sort of SE model but higher end. This new device would have a smaller Dynamic Island, with an aluminum chassis and a 6.6-inch screen with better cameras than the standard models but worse than the Pro models. A mix between standard models and Pro models.

But I would especially emphasize his ultra-thin device layout hence the name “Air” inherited from the MacBook and the iPad, both with an Air model currently available in their latest generations. In fact, Apple will take advantage of the appeal of the name and the success around these two devices to try to sell it to consumers by highlighting the need an iPhone that’s sleeker than a standard model but without the high-performance features of a Pro model. According to Gurman, Apple is already working on an idea around this model: “a much more attractive iPhone without the specifications of a normal iPhone.”

This device would see the light of day in September 2025 during the introductory presentation of the iPhone 17 and apparently Apple seems to have anticipated that sales and success will be greater than with the mini model of the iPhone 12 and 13 and even the Plus models of the last three generations (up to the iPhone 15).
