Bill Gates prefers an Android to an iPhone for the most simplistic reason

Android, Bill, Gates, iPhone, prefers, reason, simplistic

There is a lot of interest in Bill Gates’ habits and preferences. The co-founder of Microsoft usually attracts personal questions about technology which are usually answered without any qualms. This is the case with the type of phone you’re using, something we’ve known about for years and now it’s confirmed with the addition of a reason.

Bill Gates himself has stated several times in the past that he prefers Android to iPhone. Apparently, this is still the case today, since in an “Ask Me Anything” on Reddit, Gates confirmed that he had not yet switched to the iPhone or He also doesn’t use an iPad, Mac or even a Microsoft Surface Duo.

It’s not just about folding

Bill Gates’ phone is none other than a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4, which he received directly from the company’s CEO, JY Lee. Before that, Gates had already said he was using a Z Fold3 and, according to the AMA on Reddit, he traveled to South Korea to receive his new phone from Lee.

“I have a Samsung Fold 4 that JY Lee, the president of Samsung, gave me when I saw him in South Korea to update my Fold 3. Of course, I use Outlook and a lot of software Microsoft. The size of the screen means that I don’t use a tablet, but just the phone and my laptop, a Windows machine.

Without giving more details about his Windows machine of choice, Gates didn’t explain why he prefers Android over the iPhone. Although the topic of foldable devices may now loom large, the last thing we know, based on a 2021 Clubhouse interview, is that believes Android makers are “more flexible” when it comes to software integration. We’re not sure if Gates has refreshed his phone since, but he may now have a Galaxy Z Fold5 in his hands.

According to Gates himself, this translates into his main reason, namely that “Some pro-Android manufacturers install Microsoft software in a way that makes it easier for me”. The reason, undoubtedly, is a bit peculiar considering that the same Microsoft applications are available for download on any iPhone through the App Store.

“Old-fashioned” applications

Regarding the applications he uses, we have a recent clue thanks to the podcast he recorded with Sam Altman. The manager admits to being an “old-fashioned” email user, which is why the application he opens the most is Outlook. Altman, being a generation younger, likes the immediacy of Slack more.

Although years ago, Bill Gates systematically chose Microsoft products, buying their daughters a Zune and not an iPod, now, with the disappearance of Windows Phone, the choice is different. Gates himself admits that he has an iPhone “on hand” to try things out. He also tweeted at one point using “Twitter for iPhone,” but for now it looks like the Z Flip is his choice. We’ll see if a foldable iPhone manages to convince you.

Microsoft achieves with Copilot what it never achieved with Office: sneak into iPhones and Macs using free tools that Apple does not have

Microsoft is once again the most valuable company in the world ahead of Apple

Bill Gates is no longer the head of Microsoft as he once was, but I’m sure he should feel some pride that the company has overtaken Apple in terms of market valuation. As I write this, Apple is valued at $2.87 trillion while Microsoft is valued at $2,887.

Markets are volatile and no one can guarantee that this will last long, but This is a sign that Microsoft’s health is very good, perhaps better than ever. There are differences between Gates and current CEO Satya Nadella, but they have been able to use them well to have Redmond looking ahead to 2024 and beyond with optimism.
