The public release of ChatGPT has already changed the landscape of the technology sector. The use of the same GPT-4 technology in Bing Chat has boosted the use of Bing against Google, and the recent announcement that ChatGPT will be integrated into Windows shows that there is a demand for artificial intelligence in all aspects of our lives.
It is therefore logical that web browsers also receive this technology. Even if Microsoft is moving forward with its Edge browser and the integration of Bing with the AI, will not be the only one, far from it; Just today, just a day after Microsoft’s announcement, Opera announced that its web browser will also feature artificial intelligence.
The new AI is called Aria, and it’s based on GPT, the same language model used by ChatGPT and Bing Chat; Which makes sense, since it’s already accessible to developers unlike other alternatives like Google’s Bard.
Works with artificial intelligence
Basically, for Opera users, Aria will become a means of use ChatGPT for free, even if it will not be that. The company promises additional features that will take advantage of the browser platform; such as results pulled directly from the web.
In fact, this is the second time Opera has tried something similar. At the beginning of the year, Opera was one of the first applications to take advantage of the potential of ChatGPT, by integrating it into a sidebar; but that was just a shortcut to the official OpenAI page, and Aria is clearly the next step. For starters, Aria is better integrated into the browserappearing as an additional app in the sidebar in the desktop version, and as a pop-up window in the case of the Android app.
Aria is a free service, and Opera points out that, despite this, it has up-to-date information unlike other GPT-based services, which are limited to data obtained before 2021. Similarly, Opera points out that Aria will be available in the European Union, unlike Google Bard and other generative AI systems, which implies that their solution does not violate European privacy laws. Aria could therefore become one of the best ways to use ChatGPT right now.
And it’s not just because of the information you have. Another very interesting detail is that Aria is integrated with Opera data and is therefore able to create custom responses for browser users. For example, it is able to answer questions related to technical support by searching for program documentation.
In addition to generating text from questions, Aria can generate code to solve programming questions. And with Composer, in the future, you can connect to different AI models and various services to enhance the experience. With these advantages, Opera hopes to gain users; in Europe it is the fifth most used browser according to Statistics counterbehind Chrome, Safari, Edge and Samsung Internet.
Aria is already available for users of beta versions of the browser and is therefore unstable and not yet ready for a full release. But it is possible to test it in two ways: on your computer, using Opera One, the new version of the browser, and on Android, with the Opera Beta version available on Google Play.
