On a daily basis I use several TWS headsets and it is often impossible for me to choose a particular model. In the backpack that accompanies me in my everyday life and my travels I always have a Creative Outlier Air (currently the third generation, which we analyzed a few days ago), while to descend into the street I usually go for the Huawei FreeBuds Pro.
As if having two pairs of headphones weren’t enough, trying the Anker Soundcore Liberty Air 2 Pro put me in a big dilemma, as they were very close to the sound quality of the Huawei with a battery close to the Creative. Without knowing it, they replaced both devices, and somehow they were the headphones that I always wanted to take with me.
Anker wanted to go further by creating a new flagship model. The Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro aspires to become one of the benchmarks in the market in all aspects: audio quality, battery, design and customization. Will they be able to do it?
Anker’s biggest bet on sound quality
If the TWS type headsets have big advantages in terms of comfort thanks to their small size and the total absence of cables, their very nature means that in terms of quality they cannot compete with more traditional headsets.
The limitations are usually given by the available space and the bandwidth limitations of the Bluetooth connection. However, as technology advances, we appreciate that little by little the distances are reduced, and Anker wanted to break through the table with the Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro.
One of the main components to achieve this is their new audio system which they named ACAA2 (Astria Coaxial Acoustic Architecture 2.0). This sound architecture consists of a coaxial output and a two-speaker system in each earpiece, one measuring 10.6mm while the second smaller balances the sound.
This system is a considerable size, and the Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro stands out slightly in size and feels like an uncomfortable headphone. This is perhaps the only weak point of this model, and it is that it takes a little time to adapt.
We have a wide variety of rubbers for both the earpiece and the ear anchor, so the variety of rubbers allows us to find one that fits our ear well. In my experience this has not been entirely satisfactory as the bigger ones put too much pressure on my ear while the second bigger one is a bit loose. This is important that you take this into account because every ear is a world, and you really can’t tell if it will work for you until you try them out.
My recommendation is that if you get this model try all rubber options and make sure that a suit fits your ear well, so that you have room to turn them over in case none of them fit your ears.
Beyond the comfort factor, the degree of acoustic quality of the headphones is surprising, highlighting powerful bass and a wide sound palette. But it’s not just the hardware that makes these headphones special, because the real star here would be the software.
Its microphone system also convinced us, and it is that for calls and video calls they will hear us with great clarity.
The best wireless headset software you’ll find
Although installing the app is optional, we strongly recommend that you install it from Google Play (or App Store if you are an iPhone user). From there we will have access to one of the best equalizers available for headphones.
Using the equalizer is straightforward for sound experts, but for those of us who don’t have the level of knowledge, we can access a series of presets depending on what kind of music or sound you are. we will listen.
In addition to the different styles of music, we have Soundcore EQ (balanced and off-road), 3D surround sound, and HearID Sound, the latter being the one I have used the most.
HearID requires a bit of work on our part, since for a few minutes we will have to respond to the application whether or not we hear certain sound frequencies. With the results of the hearing test, the app creates a sound profile adapted to our hearing ability. This is the best option if you want it to be heard well without going into a lot of complications.
HearID’s technology is also used for active noise cancellation, raising the bar for the business. Like the Huawei FreeBuds Pro, the Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro are able to calibrate the degree of noise cancellation according to the environment we find ourselves in. The noise cancellation is enough to spend several hours on the train (in my case several Madrid – Jerez de la Frontera routes) making us forget that we are on a train.
In addition to sound quality, these headphones are Hi-Res Wireless Audio certified thanks to the use of the LDAC codec. This codec, which is only available on Android (on iOS we will have to be content with AAC) allows us to listen to music in better quality, making the most of our local music or high definition services like Deezer, Tidal or Amazon Music HD.
The LDAC codec, however, we see it useful only for listening to music, because if we force the use of this codec in games, we will enjoy higher latency without perceiving an increase in quality (the use AAC codec for games improves performance). Its more demanding use of the connection affects the battery, which drops from around 6 hours of playback per charge to just over 4 hours. Having the ability to use it is always a plus, and being able to change it from within the app is appreciated.
The best multipoint connection
One of our favorite add-ons is the multipoint connection. This technology makes it possible to simultaneously connect the headset to two devices (for example, your mobile and your PC). It has its limit, which is that you will only be able to listen on one of the two devices at the same time, but this is not a problem with Anker itself, but with the technology itself.
Switching between devices is virtually instantaneous, and all you have to do is stop the music on one of the two devices and start it on the other to start playing. We really liked your performance in this regard.
Although the simultaneous connection is made on two devices, you can really link the headset to all the devices you want. From the SoundCore app, we can choose which two devices will be active. The use of the application is what makes it the best multipoint connection on the market, because you can easily activate it for the PC and the mobile at home, and when you go out, change the PC for the smartwatch, and so on. right now. to want.
Although this seems the best to us, it has aspects to improve, because when pairing a new device, it is sometimes the mobile itself that leaves both devices active, and when disconnecting, we let’s lose the possibility of accessing the application to manage device assets, having to disconnect the mobile and reconnect it. The application should allow us to repair the device from which we manage the active devices so that it is never disconnected during a new connection.
One of the best charging cases, but a step back from its predecessor
Although the attachment to the ears seemed to us the weakest point, it was a circumstantial inconvenience. However, the case has not finished convincing us, since it seems to us a little behind compared to the Liberty Air 2 Pro.
The style of the case is similar, being an oval box that opens using a sliding mechanism. However, it no longer has a notch for easy opening. On the other hand, placing each earpiece in its charging space is not intuitive. Again the Air 2 Pro was very easy to leave in place, whereas with these more than once I had to think about the correct position.
Beyond the recoil, the case design is sleek, with 3 LEDs that indicate the charge level, a USB C charging port and wireless charging support.
Great headphones that leave me wanting more
Since trying the Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro I have had a hard time going back. In terms of sound quality, battery and technology (the Soundcore application seems to us by far the best on Android) they are a sure value whose only real unknown beyond the budget is whether they are will adapt well to your ear.
With a price of 159.99 dollars and four colors available (black, white, purple and silver), the Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro is a high-end headset that will not disappoint. If the price is out of your budget, the Liberty Air 2 Pro are still one of the better options, which over successive sales have been very attractively priced.
