In Europe, we have seen how 2020 has been a great year for video calling. Although its exponential growth is due to one forced circumstance, it is a technology that has already entered the public domain, and after all that we have been through, we are convinced that they are here to stay. Even when everything is back to normal.
WhatsApp had already supported video calling for quite some time, but it was limited only to our mobile phone. We knew the company was developing this technology for WhatsApp Web and WhatsApp for PC, and it’s finally starting to roll out.
WhatsApp web calls and video calls are starting to arrive
One of the most anticipated features is WhatsApp calls and computer video calls. These started arriving in beta last December, and after a long wait, it looks like it’s finally a feature that’s starting to hit the world.
The company has formalized the rollout of the feature, which at the moment is only available for video calls between two devices (group video calls will come later). WhatsApp pointed out that calls and video calls are end-to-end encrypted and that they will never be able to see or hear the content of them.
According to WABetaInfoTo receive video calls, you must have version 2.21.4.10 or higher of the application. To find out your version, you can go to Settings -> Help -> App Info. and from there we can see the version. If in doubt, the ideal is to go to the Google Play Store and update the application to the latest version available.
At the moment, the function is deployed on the server side. This means that even though the app is fully updated, the call and video call buttons may still not appear. It is a common process in the deployment of these types of functions and if there is no technical problem it should affect everyone in the next few hours.
