WhatsApp statuses are not the most used functions by users, but Meta still thinks that they have a chance and that is why they update them with improvements. The maximum viewing time has been changed to one minute and the status editor will allow you to customize them in detail.
On the other hand, we recently became aware of the ranking system which will show us the statuses of our most important contacts. This is not the only thing waiting to reach the messaging application: the new beta version of WhatsApp for Android reveals news sharing options before publishing
Choose who sees your statuses. The latest features of WhatsApp in beta version
Although WhatsApp already offers very useful privacy options, such as limiting who can see our status updatesthe new update wants to go even further in user privacy.
As we read in WABetaInfo, these options will be very more accessible after the next version of the messaging application. More precisely, it is version 2.24.12.27 which displays a new privacy menu.
This, will appear just before sharing a status update: will give us the possibility to choose who we share it with, with two options. “All contacts” or “Specific contacts”. The latter will show the status to the contacts that we have previously preselected.
The menu will serve as little reminder so users know they can change the visibility of their statuses. Of course, it is unclear at this time whether these changes will be applied to future releases or whether they will only serve the current state.
Regardless, you can currently control who sees your updates by going to “Settings” > “Privacy”. Or from the status editor page, where it is possible to modify this setting.
The behavior of this last minute notice is also unknown: it could be boring if it is present with every state we plan to download. Of course, this will help many people avoid posting something they will be ashamed of later.
WABetaInfo indicates that only some beta users see this update on their devices. The deployment date is therefore not at all clear. It might also be rejected by Meta if it doesn’t garner positive feedback from beta testers.
