Google unveiled four new features for the Chrome browser on iOS and iPadOS on Tuesday. These features are currently available on Chrome for Android, but they are debuting on iPhone. Here are the new features
Google Lens: search images and text at the same time
Chrome on iOS can perform a Google search using an image from your photo library. Google improved this feature so that users can add words to the visual query to perform specific searches. In one example provided by Google, the user can choose an image of a snowboard to search for, but can then refine the search by adding text, such as a color like “purple” and get results of purple snowboards. Google Lens can be accessed by tapping the camera icon in the Google search bar.
Save files to Google Drive and Google Photos
Web content can now be saved to a Google Drive or Google Photos account. You must be signed in to a Google account for this to work. When saving a file from Chrome, users can tap a Google Drive option and a new “Saved from Chrome” folder is created, housing your saved files. To save images, long press on the image and a pop-up menu appears with the option “Save to Google Photos”.
Tap to see a mini-map of an address
“Soon,” users will be able to tap an address and view a mini-map of the location, right in Chrome. Goggle says this feature is in the experimental phase and will be rolled out gradually to other regions.
When shopping using Chrome, if a Shopping Insight offer is available, a “Good Deal Now” notification will appear and users can tap it for details. This feature requires users to be signed in to Chrome and have the “Improved search and navigation” setting enabled. Shopping Inisghts is available in the United States, with more regions being added “in the coming months.”
